About Us / Our Vision and Purpose / Five Purposes

The Five Purposes

We were created to:

Glorify God in every area of my life
(Worship)

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

That's what worship is all about.   Doing everything for God is our first purpose.   Why?  Because that's why God made you.

Revelation 4:11b (NLT)

"…For you created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created."

Relate to other believers

through fellowship

(Belong)

I John 1:7 (CEV)
“But if we live in the light as God does, we share in life with each other.”

Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

"His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure."

Belonging to God's family by having relationships with other believers is our second purpose.  Christians this purpose is not optional.   It is not “I'll do it if I feel like it!”   Loving and being loved by a family of believers is a command.   If you love God you will love others.

1 John 4:21 (GW)

"Christ has given us this commandment: The person who loves God must also love other believers."

Aspire to become like Jesus
(Grow)

2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”

Growing a little bit more like Jesus every day, in all we do, is our third purpose.

Romans 8:29 (LB)

"For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers."

Commit my life to ministry
(Serve)

I Peter 4:10 (NIV)

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.”

You are called to commit your life to serving God by serving His people.  This is our fourth purpose.

Philippians 3:15 MSG

"So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you'll see it yet!"

Matthew 20:28 NIV

"…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Evangelize the world with the

"Good News" of God's grace

(Share)

Romans 1:16 (NLT)

“For I am not ashamed of this good news about Christ.   It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes – Jews first and also Gentiles.”

When we evangelize the world around us with the Good News of the Gospel, this is our fifth purpose.

Acts 1:8 (NIV)

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem , and in all Judea and Samaria , and to the ends of the earth."

“Jerusalem” = The people closest to me.

“Judea ” / “Samaria”= People near but different from me.

“Ends of the earth” = Everybody else.

Notice exactly how Jesus says this.   He doesn't say you will be my defense attorney.   He doesn't say you will be my prosecutor.  He doesn't say you will be my salesman. You don't sell God or defend him.   All God asks is that you be His witness. What is a witness?   A witness is someone who tells exactly what they know.   I once was lost but now I'm found.   Because of Jesus' death on the cross my sins are all erased.   I have purpose and unspeakable joy.   No other person has your exact witness, because he saved you in unique way.
