Ministry / Finding My SHAPE

Grace Church is committed to becoming more effective at meeting the daily spiritual needs of those in the body as well as those in our community. As in all church bodies, the work is more than any single group of people can do – it’s only by piecing together the talents, gifts, and work of many that a picture can be completed. You are a vital part of the picture: God has shaped you to serve and wants you to use your gifts, passions, and abilities in His family.

1 Peter 4:10-11
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in it’s various forms...if anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.

As we work to create a beautiful picture of God’s love and power in our community, we need to get a broad understanding of your experiences, education, talents and passions. As well, we need to understand your desire and availability to share those things to minister to the body and reach out to the community around us. God has uniquely shaped each one of us to function in His body. As we allow Him to reveal to us where He has purposed for us to serve, the entire church is strengthened.

Ephesians 4:11-12
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.

When you discover how God has shaped everything about you according to His perfect will, you can begin to use everything you do as a way to serve Him. We value and love you, and want to know you and understand as best we can help you to fit into the beautiful mosaic of God’s grace that we’re all working on together.

Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

God didn’t design church ministry for a select few with seminary degrees. Here at Grace, every member of our church is a minister.

Allowing God to show you how He has shaped you is one of the most important discoveries you could make. It is like finding a buried treasure in your own back yard that you did not know was there! If you would like to discover your SHAPE, we have resources available to assist you. Our 301 CLASS an exciting, fast-paced class designed to help you discover your SHAPE.

You’ll complete a SHAPE profile, which is a detailed Discovery tool that helps reveal how God wants to use someone with your SHAPE to minister to others in need.

Next, you’ll be encouraged to schedule a follow-up SHAPE Discovery Session to talk about your SHAPE profile.

What can I expect at my SHAPE Discovery Session?
During your SHAPE Discovery Session you will meet with a member of the staff or a Growth Connection Team member to:

* Review your SHAPE profile starting with your experiences and ending with your spiritual gifts.
* Talk about other responsibilities you have in life to see if the time is right for you to serve. We have found over the years that people fall into one of four areas:

1. Ready to serve.
2. Need time to heal...spiritually or emotionally.
3. Already serving.
4. Want to start a new ministry.

* Determine if you are ready to start serving at Grace your Ministry Representative will offer you 2-3 service opportunities that fit your SHAPE.
* Ask you to contact the selected ministries and start serving as soon as possible.
* Answer any questions you may have.

When you discover your SHAPE and find out how God has “wired” you to serve, you may find that Grace Church does not currently have a ministry that specifically fits your SHAPE and how you want to serve. It is at this time that we encourage people to consider starting a ministry that fits this need. The majority of our ministries here at Grace were begun this way and are headed by people just like you. When a member starts a ministry, they get the full support of the Grace Church staff.
