Ken and Terri VanBrunt are our full time missionaries to the Chayahuita Indians in the Amazon Rainforest. They returned to Peru after being here in Colorado for 2 years. We recently received this update from Ken & Terri:
"It’s really hard to believe that we have been here in Peru for almost 2 months. The days have just flown by. We have enjoyed getting back into the jungle life for the most part. The best part is being reunited with our Chayahuita brothers and sisters.
There have been some exciting things happening in their lives and yet some tragedies as well. In September, a very strong tornado type wind came down from the mountains and did major damage to the new church building in San Antonio. We were told that it tore the metal roof off and twisted it just as if it was paper. None of it was salvageable. Then they had two young men die and they are not sure from what. Both were in their twenties and started vomiting blood. On the positive side, 3 new babies were born healthy. Marta, Pancho’s wife, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and Pancho’s sister-in-law gave birth to twins. The unusual thing about that is that not many twins are born and live. One of the babies, a boy, was born in Panan on the 20t h and the other, a girl, was born in Yurimaguas by cesarean. Both were big and healthy. The mom had to be brought down by boat which is quite a trip.
We ask for your prayers as we go to Tarapoto with the Chayahuita leadership to meet with Paul Johnson and Irma Espinoza. The future between Grace Church and the Chayahuita church will be discussed. We want them to be the ones to lead and let us know what they would like to see happen in the next few years. They will be the ones giving us direction not vice versa. They really have some great ideas and have been very encouraged by the Amazonian Indigenous Consultation in Iquitos. They are bursting at the seams with excitement.
We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible while we are in the US for the month of December. We will return with the team for the annual Chayahuita conference in January.
