Tommy and Angela Head
Tommy and Angela Head arrived in Peru in 1998. They serve with Living Water International and work with the natives that call the beautiful canopy called the Amazon Jungle their home. They consider Grace to be one of their two sending churches and greatly esteem both the leadership and the many friendships that have resulted from the partnership. Tommy and Angela began their ministry with Tommy teaching the Word and Angela treating the many patients, as illness was always prevalent. They traveled in a dug out canoe from one village to the next, encouraging the pastors and believers in the isolated villages along the tributaries of the Amazon River . They are blessed to have the Jesus Film in many native languages, as each tribe has it’s unique dialect, with Spanish always being a second language, if it’s spoken at all.
Angela is a Registered Nurse and wherever they traveled she set up her make-shift clinic and treated the tropical maladies of the natives as best she could. Through the careful documentation of the patients illnesses and resulting treatments, the couple was astonished to find that 85% of all the illnesses that Angela was treating could be traced back to poor drinking water and even worse hygiene. They arrived at the conclusion that they were treating the results of the problem and while the real culprits, poor hygiene and contaminated water, were literally killing thousands of Indians each year, the majority of those being children.
After prayerful consideration, they went to drill camp and learned how to drill fresh water wells. They discover that the same villages that had rejected them when they were “just” offering the Word of God, where excited to have a fresh water well in their village. The couple uses this creative access as platform from which they can freely share the Gospel, address the 50% infant mortality rate, and hopefully extend the life span of the Indians that only reaches into the early fifties.
Tommy and Angela wanted to take this opportunity to thank Grace Church of Arvada for their faithful support over the years.
